It used to be that tech stuff was for the geeks. I think that the word geek actually started out as a derogatory term, though I might be wrong. In any case, as with most things, this has changed and today, if you are called a geek, it can actually be a good thing.
More people are becoming technophiles in varying degrees, and I think that the ease of access of information online is one of the main contributors.
