The Middle East Foundation began as the dream of a group of college students in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area inspired by a love for Middle Eastern current affairs and history, but dismayed by the partisan office politics and lack of opportunities in established organizations.
This site is devoted to research about the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia, a region of the world that far too many Americans still remain ignorant of and hostile towards. In a post-11 September 2001 political environment that actively encourages apocalyptic “Clash of Civilizations” scenarios, this ignorance is dangerous.
